As usual the standard was impressive. I wasn't a judge this year and so most of the award winners were new to me. The Good Design Awards were handed out last Friday in a new format event held in two locations: prizes at the Angel Place recital hall (with the car design trophies handed out by my rally mate Samantha Stevens - in blue below) and drinks and display across the way at the Ivy.

I am currently in Sydney prepping to film The Beer Factor later this month for Channel 9, working on the sustainable - and super cool!! - rebuild of a corner block in Bondi, and reviewing cars for Fairfax.
The DA is currently in Council and includes three levels of green roof and three roomy apartments. If passed intact it will represent a substantial reuse - as opposed to a full-render makeover or demolition - of the red brick mid century apartment blocks that swarm the back of Bondi. Below are a couple of artists renderings showing the before and after shots. I am excited - so far no objections, plus a huge pile of old wharf timber from the old Woolwich Marina (one of my childhood stomping grounds) has been delivered onsite. Stay tuned on that one. Meanwhile I am trying to perfect the logo for my architectural partnership with architect Sam Quick., which we have named QuickDominguez. I have taken a car-inspired font and now just trying to tweak...here is where it is currently at. Times like these I just wish I had mastered (read "ever learned") Photoshop. |
