In 2008 I wrote a 22-page lift out called the Blue Pages for Monument magazine containing innovations in water ranging from wave power to greywater processing and floating houses that harness the thermal mass of the water for internal comfort. I was not able to write as much as I would have liked about Charlie Paton's incredible Seawater Greenhouse design built in Abu Dhabi but I have just uncovered some of the additional diagrams and photos so - for the ultimate solution to sustainable agriculture in dry arid (yet seaside) regions of the world - check this out! The process imitates the hydrological cycle where water evaporates from the ocean via the sun's heat, cools to form clouds and then returns to sea and land as rain, fog or dew. Could this also be a solution for the cooling ponds of power stations and other man-made saline water bodies? Link to Charlie's website here
