Sally lives with her family in Corte Madera, in Marin County, California and is constantly amazed at how different the cultures of Australia and the USA are.

Below are some pictures from the opening of the Tesla factory in Fremont, NorCal. A significant moment for electric car manufacture in the USA. Shown is the preproduction Model S.
Below are some photos from the El Sobrante Classic Car walk in Contra Costa County, September 2011. A beautiful sunny day for car-gawking!
Parking Day
PARK(ing) Day 2011 is on Friday 16 September. Parking Day is a annual open-source global event where citizens, artists and activists collaborate to temporarily transform metered parking spaces into “PARK(ing)” spaces: temporary public places. The concept originated in San Francisco with design studio Rebar converting a metered car park into an oasis of foliage and calm.
This year Marin landscape designer Jim Davidge contact Sally's company Rainwater HOG to request some HOGs for his take on parking day - renamed "Barking Day". Jim's design is below - stay tuned for pix!

The NorCal Knockout Kustom car and hotrod show held in Vallejo CA last weekend was a brilliant display of lovingly crafted carware. Completely inspiring - I was able to interview some of these passionate car addicts. Pardon the clammy complexion - it was an absolute scorcher of a day!

My first Burning Man experience was in 2009 and it was nothing short of life-changing at least in a creative sense. Here is an aluminium-clad ship traversing the playa in a late afternoon dust storm. Emitting a dull dance-music thunk as it travelled, the ship swung towards us, lowered its rear moat and disgorged a stream of danced-out burners onto the sand before pulling away for another journey.
I think people play up the sex n drugs image of Burning Man but as Straighty 180 Sal I can vouch that I saw more of both actions at the festivities around Sydney's Sleaze Balls than I have seen at two years of Burning Man. This two week festival of the mind is a spectacular collision of artistic expression, pure left-of-centre creative vision, survivalism and community spirit and an absolute inspiration. Black Rock City is built on a remote geologically significant alkaline playa in Nevada, on an Indian Reservation, and the overall vision is to create something magnificent, interactive and thoroughly engaging but ephemeral: at the end of the two week festival the city disappears and so do the revelers, leaving "no trace" as they exit. Over 50,000 people attended last year and the city is a feat of planning and vision. Here is a satellite image of Black Rock City 2010. The Man in the centre, the Temple lined up to make 12 O Clock, and the camp locations determined by time relative to Man and Temple, and the avenues organized by alphabet. Below that is a film of an incredible steel mesh sculpture from last year's Burn.

The Marin Concours d'Elegance is one of the most spectacular car shows you will experience. Last year the show marque was Porsche , this year its Rolls Royce. Not to be missed (except sadly I will because I am in Sydney this year on the date) this show is mind blowing!

Sausalito houseboats at Waldo's Point range from the original "pirate" 70s shack defiantly half-sinking on the sides to multi-storey mansions resplete with rooftop helipads.
